Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

That would be a quote from Erik The Phantom as Susan Kay wrote it. Strange that this specific quote is nowhere to be found elsewhere but in the book itself. It is not included in the list of quotes from the same story/movie in Goodreads or BrainyQuotes. You must read the whole book to find it. I like this particular passage because it is dark, dry, cynical and oh, so true. It goes like this:

“Happiness is like the first intoxication of morphine. It doesn’t last very long.”

 There is also another quote from the same character in the same story that I like a lot. Again, it exists nowhere but in the book. It says: 

“Time ravages beauty and preserves plain(li)ness.”

  1. One of my favorite quotes is by a wonderful musician named Dave Swarbrick. We can all get cynical about music sometimes, saying things aren’t like they used to be, and expressing our dislike for things but he has a great quote that keeps me grounded. He said simply-‘You can do anything you want to music. It doesn’t mind.’

    It floored me when I first heard it!

    1. I can understand. I once had a notebook full of quotation I copied from books. I guess those I can remember must have struck a cord in me or otherwise they will not be engraved in my memory.

  3. I don’t think I have a favourite quote but just these little lines or phrases, more like dialogues that I pick up from God knows where and the ones I use often! But they are in Hindi, and translation would mean them losing their charm!
