Do you play an instrument? Is there a musical instrument whose sound you find particularly pleasing? Tell us a story about your experience or relationship with an instrument of your choice.

Spanish guitar.

I grew up with it and almost any boy from my country can play it. Girls too. It is like playing chess. Even a kid from wherever corner of the street knows how to play a decent game of chess. It is something nobody teaches no one. You watch people do it and before you know, you are doing exactly the same. I don’t know if it is something to do with being musically talented by birth or just a coincidence but almost anyone there knows how to play guitar and carry a tune.

Sadly I didn’t inherit the talent even though I came from a musical family. I can only watch with envy whenever my siblings and cousins blurt songs after songs with conviction. Well, I said to myself, no one can have everything. Just kidding. Where am I?

Yes, Spanish guitar… part of our tradition and culture. Sits in my blood, and forever in my memories. We are sentimental emotional romantic people who live and breathe slow rocks and ballads and express them through karaoke sessions and amateur singing contests. I would love to learn to play guitar, piano too, but that road is not designed for me to travel. No talent or whatsoever. Point.
